Shipwreck Orchestra
Aaron Miller is a classically trained multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger, and producer working under the name Shipwreck Orchestra. His recordings draw together progressive composition, chamber music, folk traditions and cinematic orchestration, creating instrumental works in which recurring musical ideas gradually reveal larger structures.
Originally trained in orchestral performance, Aaron has performed on trumpet, piano and tuned percussion since his teens, alongside decades of experience on guitar, bass and a wide range of fretted and bowed stringed instruments. His compositions are characterised by independent themes that combine through repetition, layering and changing context, allowing complexity to emerge from relatively simple musical material.
Every Shipwreck Orchestra release is conceived as a complete artistic work. Alongside writing and performing the music, Aaron undertakes the arrangement, recording, production, mixing, mastering and visual design, often constructing instruments specifically for each project. This integrated approach allows the music, artwork and accompanying publications to develop as parts of a single creative process.
Whether composing, arranging, building instruments or designing publications, Aaron approaches each project as a form of craftsmanship. The recordings are intended not simply as albums, but as carefully constructed objects in which sound, image and physical presentation are inseparable.
